Note:  For brevity and simplicity, all tunings for the sets below are written out in standard

Guilele String Sets

For further information on the EFS Guilele Sets see the review and sound sample (click here)

EFSG-WB:   EFS Guilele String set w/ wound basses    Version 1.6

This set has a suggested tuning of  e  a  d’  g  b  e’ on the typical 17” Guilele scale.  That makes this a reentrant set in the Eddie Freeman Special form, with strings 6-4 an octave  up from standard guitar tuning.  The 3rd string is then reentrant, dropping an octave.  The strings proceed up  normally from there, meaning strings 3-1 are in the same octave as standard guitar tuning.  The 4th & 1st strings are plain. The 4 lowest strings, 6, 5, 3 & 2 are wound.  The heavier of these, the 6 & 3 are smooth wound for noise free playing.  The 5th and 2nd wound strings are lighter gauges and are polished round wounds for low noise.  These materials allow a 4-wound set-up to have much less noise under hand than the customary 3-wound arrangement.  In addition to allowing play with standard guitar chord names, this set, compared to a typical Guilele set, will have a much easier feel, much better response and the range of notes are much better suited for acoustic play on the small bodied Guilele.

LEFSG-SW:   Light EFS Guilele String set w/ wound basses   Version 1.6

This set has a suggested tuning of  e  a  d’  g  b  e’  for a 20” scale Guilele.  As with the standard set above, that makes this a reentrant set in the Eddie Freeman Special form, with strings 6-4 an octave up from standard guitar tuning.  The 3rd string is then reentrant, dropping an octave. The strings proceed up normally from there, meaning strings 3-1 are in the same octave as standard guitar tuning.  The 6th string is smooth wound, for noise free playing.  The 3rd string is a highly polished round wound string.  All other strings are plain, giving this set a very low noise under hand.  In addition to allowing play with standard guitar chord names, this set, compared to a typical Guilele set, will have a much easier feel, much better response and the range of notes are much better suited for acoustic play on the small bodied Guilele.  Tension on this set is lighter than the standard set on the 20” scale.  It can also be played on the 17” scale.  It would be tuned up a step - from f to f’.  In this tuning on the typical Tenor sized body, all 6 strings are fully resonant.                                                                          Available Soon

HMP-WB:   Heavy Medium Gauge Plectrum Set w/ wound basses   Version 1.6

This set can be used for the traditional fixed tuning of  c  g  b  d’.  The tension will be better for most on the longer scale of our Classical Tenor Guitar.  On a 23” scale, tensions will be light, or this set may be tuned up. The 4th & 3rd strings are polished wound strings with plain 1st & 2nd strings. The range of notes for this tuning is ideally suited to give great depth and fullness to a Parlor Guitar body, and the most extensive and beautiful repertoire ever written for a 4-string plucked instrument can give you access to both great sound and great music.                                                                                                    Available Soon   LHP-WB:   Light Heavy Gauge Plectrum Set w/ wound basses   Version 1.6 This set can also be used for the traditional fixed tuning of  c  g  b  d’.  The tension will be better very firm on the longer scale of our Classical Tenor Guitar, or this set could be tuned down a bit.  On a 23” scale, tensions will be in the normal range. Available Soon

KIKUG-SW:   Kiku Guilele String set w/ smooth wound basses   Version 1.6

This set has a suggested tuning of  e  a  d  g  b  e’  for a 20” scale Guilele.  This  is a new tuning for the new 6 string Guilele and is used by Zanuck Lindsey and Kimo Hussey among others.  This is the same set-up as the LEFSG-SW above with the exception of the 4th string.  As you see, that note drops an octave and so it is now the 4th string that is reentrant.   The 5th & 6th strings are an octave above standard guitar tuning but from the reentrant 4th the strings proceed up normally from there, meaning strings 4-1 are in the same octave as standard guitar tuning.  The 6th & 4th strings are smooth wound, for noise free playing.  The 3rd string is a highly polished round wound string.  All other strings are plain, giving this set a very low noise under hand.
